This website was born out of a desire to help educate knitters everywhere with real solutions to practical knitting problems — the kind of stuff you wish someone would explain properly for once and for all — WITHOUT me having to travel a lot to do it.
Don't get me wrong: I love knitting, and I love teaching knitters — I especially love to see that AHA! moment when someone finally "gets" something, or sees that there is indeed a solution to their nagging knitting problem. But, I also love my home, my cats, my husband, my studio, my stash… you get the idea.
My students have told me many times that my approach to teaching knitting is different, unique, and brings clarity in a way that they don't see anywhere else — but no one can quite exactly put a finger on what it is that I do that is so unique!
I am hoping that whatever it is, you will find it in these pages, and it will help you become a better knitter and enjoy your knitting more. Few things can break my little knitting heart faster than a knitter who just isn't happy with her knitting.
Maybe what makes my style different is that I tend to focus on knitting - not yarn, not patterns, but the nuts-and-bolts of actual knitting.
One thing I've learned during the time I've spent teaching is that the knitting industry is very yarn-centric: patterns are written, magazines and books are published, stores are opened, and designers are paid, with the end goal of selling yarn — NOT necessarily the goal of you being able to make a good-looking, well-fitting garment that you'll love wearing for a decade or more.
Well, that happens to be what I think knitting is all about, for myself, anyway. For my students, who maybe aren't always interested in making sweaters, I've always wanted them to enjoy knitting and be happy with what they spend their time on.
So, I focus on what to do after you bring that scrumptious new yarn home! Often that translates to better knowledge of technique, experience and expertise, which is what I have to offer.
I hope to keep this site free of advertising, and for that reason, I will have articles, e-books and patterns for sale, as well as for free. I also do recommend some books and products that I believe in, and use in my own knitting.
Full Disclosure: if I have linked to a product for sale elsewhere, chances are it is a link that brings me a small commission, if you decide to purchase based on my recommendation. However, I am not planning to get rich off any affiliated sales, so rest assured I don't recommend just any old crap. If you don't believe that, you should read this review I posted on Amazon.com.
Happy Knitting!
